Scientists doubt acupuncture

Scientists, of course, don’t feed them with bread, just let them refute the value of popular and non-traditional methods of medicine that rob them of their clients. In their doubt, there is, of course, healthy grain - too many such traditional healers brazenly use the placebo effect, and sometimes even destroy their patients, without bearing any responsibility for it.

This time a large-scale study was conducted in the field of acupuncture. According to the results obtained, the existence of a fundamental difference between “real” and “false” acupuncture has been questioned.

The study involved about 3,000 patients in Denmark who suffered from arthritis, migraine, lower back pain and pain after performing certain operations. The task of the scientists was to find out whether acupuncture has medical value and to what extent it can alleviate the suffering of the patient.

Until now, representatives of Western medicine do not have an unequivocal attitude to acupuncture. Several studies are carried out every year, and all of them give conflicting results. The main question that most often interests physicians is the difference between real and false acupuncture.

Here it is necessary to clarify what it is about. In this (or genuine) acupuncture, when inserting needles, the energy meridians of the body are guided. According to the canons of classical acupuncture, the energy is exchanged in the body along these meridians, so the effect on the necessary energy zones gives the desired effect.

In false acupuncture, the needles are either not inserted so deeply, or special “energy points” are not selected. However, according to scientists, even in this case, patients receive a positive psychological impact.

If you influence the energy meridians, you can change both the efficiency and the nature of the many processes in our body. So supporters of acupuncture believe, and this theory for more than a thousand years. However, scientists still do not see this scientific evidence. As for false acupuncture, the needles are not inserted in it along the energy lines.

Let us return to the study in Denmark. Scientists could not identify any clinical significance in the differences recorded in the results of traditional and false acupuncture. In other words, these methods practically did not differ. But what is significant - patients who have undergone a course of false acupuncture, still felt better.

Scientists believe that there is a pronounced placebo effect, it is also a positive psychological effect. It is quite likely, the authors of the study believe, that both real and false acupuncture do not have any genuine effect on the body. In addition, there is no evidence, but acupuncture helps to reduce pain.

According to the study, the Danes intend to conduct additional research to find out to what extent the whole science of acupuncture is based on the placebo effect.

However, a similar study was conducted by the Cochrane Collaboration group. And this time, scientists have found that both methods of acupuncture really reduce migraines and headaches. At the same time, an effect was recorded that even surpasses conventional painkillers in its effectiveness.

The head of the British Council of Acupuncture is convinced that this method not only works, but also demonstrates excellent results for treating patients with various diseases.

Researchers from England also believe that although needles penetrate shallowly and not always into special zones in false acupuncture, it still sometimes works, if only as a psychological tool. Accordingly, they consider it absolutely pointless to study the possibilities of false acupuncture. However, acupuncture advocates point out a lot of studies that have confirmed the effectiveness of acupuncture, which many patients may agree with.

As you can see, in the scientific world full discord. Some are confident in the effectiveness of acupuncture, others are not. What to do to us, simple people? In our humble opinion, it is necessary to try - the procedure is inexpensive, most importantly, choose a reliable specialist in acupuncture. Say you regularly have a headache? Try acupuncture - if it doesn't work, it won't be worse, and the opposite result is possible! Unlike drugs, there is practically no risk of consequences - the procedure will either help you or not.
